Reproduction of cord symptoms. Classic for: Upper Motor Neuron Lesion.
Kernig’s and Brudzinski’s
Kernig’s: Resistance or pain when extending knee Brudzinski: Involuntary movement of knee/hip flexion with resistance to leg extension when flexing neck. Classic for: Meningeal Inflammation.
Amoss Sign
Observational finding (supported postures) which may be related to meningitis.
Beevor’s Sign
Umbilicus moves cephalically. Classic for: Spinal cord lesion.
Spinal Percussion
Reproduction of symptoms. Classic for: Identifying potential compression fracture.
Semmes Weinstein
Reproduction of nerve symptoms. Classic for: Neuropathy.
2-point discrimination
Reduced ability to discriminate points assessing sensory function and potential damage to a peripheral nerve or posterior column-medial lemniscus pathway.
